Presentation in Japanese class

So today I had the Japanese presentation I mentioned before. I decided to just go with manga, it's not like it's so strange for an Asian to like that stuff anyway (in fact, it's kind of expected of us). But I just went into detail about how it's very nice for practicing Japanese and such. I brought seven Japanese volumes of Yotsubato! and 5 English, along with 3 Japanese and 2 English Mirai Nikki volumes. I also brought in Welcome to the NHK!, but only 1 volume since I only have 1 volume in Japanese for it.

Everything was fine. Most people were just reading their presentations from their paper about generic stuff you can tell was paraphrased from wikipedia anyway. But after I went apparently there were more lively people. One girl in the class, the only one that makes it really known she's weeaboo, did an embarrassing presentation on maid cafe's.
But hey, whatever. I sat through the presentation and didn't say a word. My professor had a face on that looked as if even she was uncomfortable hearing a presentation on a topic like that. A little after some other Asian girl did her presentation on Kanmen Rider. She was pretty damn into it, and even brought some merchandise that others probably wouldn't care much about, but I knew were actually rather expensive. She also made a few of the items herself, apparently from cosplaying. It wasn't a bad presentation really.

Then there was some dude that did his presentation on Japanese game shows, and I was thinking that was such an obvious topic with tons of flexibility. Probably would have been a nice topic for me to pick as well, but too late now.

After class ended my professor asked to borrow some of my Yotsubato! volumes. She said she liked Azumanga but never got a chance to read Yotsubato! yet.

So it was pretty fine. I just hope I didn't raise any flags for people to come rushing at me. I think I did a pretty good job not making it seem like some kind of obsession and making it seem more like something interesting to use to help me study (which is kinda is anyway).

Oh yes, I'm fine knowing it's an obsession. I don't want them to know it.

Congratulations on completing your presentation. I'm glad I don't have Japanese classes anymore, it's really uncomfortable to have to speak broken Japanese in front of a large group of people.

Great to hear it wasn't a disaster.

>did an embarrassing presentation on made cafe's.

REALLY? Was it THAT necessary for that girl to talk about this. Does she want to rub it into people's faces that she's a weaboo.

>After class ended my professor asked to borrow some of my Yotsubato! volumes.

I would've been kinda hesitant but I guess it doesn't bother you?

I didn't even notice my typo until you pointed it out, Jerry.

A good start. I gave all my Japanese back to the teacher long ago.

She talked about how she was a part of one in a convention where she cosplayed as some Naruto character while also being in a maid outfit.

>I would've been kinda hesitant but I guess it doesn't bother you?

She asked after class when everyone was already gone, and I didn't particularly have a problem with it.

What level Japanese course are you taking? About to take my first one for fun when I transfer to another University.

Congratulations on finishing your presentation, I've got to give a speech tomorrow...absolutely hate talking in front of a group. Oh well, so it goes.

It's just a level 1 course. I used to be NEET for a while and then decided to start taking Japanese classes in an attempt to boost motivation and also help me in grammar (my weakest area).

So far it's been able to help with both, even if I'm far more advanced than the rest of the class. The professor realized this so gives me harder work than the rest of the class (longer sentences, using as much kanji as I know, etc.)

I agreed to the extra work though, keeps me from getting bored by doing stuff I've already covered long ago. Also makes me realize some flaws I had that I didn't realize before.

What the hell? Ignoring the fact that she did this, why would she want people to even know about it?

I remember this girl back in high school who told everyone she met to watch Naruto. She kept comparing it to Inuyasha as well.

A lot of Asian people over here watch/read anime/manga casually as well. I live in a city that's populated by a lot of Asians so I wasn't sure if other areas were the same as well. Needless to say, my city has a lot of public weeaboos too.

Glad to hear that it went well for you!

This is why we can't have nice things.

Everyone loves Yotsuba!

To avoid from being labelled a weaboo? Are the rest of the otaku there closet otaku as well? (oh wai- if they're, they won't probably be so obvious eh...)

Glad to hear that it went well. What aspect of manga did you presented btw?

I don't think I've ever met a weeaboo IRL, so I must be lucky.

I hate it when people don't suppress their power levels.

Game shows, however, sounded like a great topic for a presentation.

You're pretty brave to present something like this, but it sounds like you handled it well. Good luck in your class.

Sounds like someone is getting an A... especially if your teacher was asking to borrow that!

Back in High School, I did a presentation on Manga as well. Brought in some Japanese Doraemon and Kimba volumes. Already knew Teach was a Doraemon fan since she was a young lass, so that was an easy A for me. I was such an ass kisser in High School...

No, to avoid anyone talking to me. I could care less what they really think of me. Also, there's no real reason for them to know either.

This.

I mean... really? It's so hard to say you like anime nowadays because of the mass amounts of weeaboos. Now every time I hear the words "naruto", "bleach", or "deathnote", I go into normal person mode. Do not want. Kids nowadays...

Anyway, congrats on your presentation :3. Good choice in manga you have there. I'm planning to take a Japanese class as well next year. I'd like to actually be able to read the Japanese magazines I buy from the bookstore. I can only understand by context and usually get them for the posters and free stuff *guilty*.

First, anyone who judges or stereotypes you based on the fact you like anime is shallow and not the kind person you want to associate with. You don't need to apologize to anyone for what makes you happy.

Second, even if you like Naruto or something the public deems as childish, it shouldn't detract you. It's never important what you like, but why you like it. Maybe you find the shounen genre to be an interesting reflection of the pressures on Japanese adolescents to grow up or perform or some shit. Or maybe you just want to escape into some childish fun. To paraphrase Chuck Klosterman, there is no such thing as a guilty pleasure, because "these things that give us pleasure, they are guilty of nothing."

The doesn't really have much to do with Japan though. Even among maid cafes there are levels of greatness and failure. The best kind are usually the ones where the maids are extremely polite and nobody bothers you.

Glad you made it through the presentation though.

Finally, I get around to commenting on your post. It seems your blog is getting more popular, too.

What a bro. If I were more social and were there, I'd have shook her hand. Had no idea there were females that are into Kamen Rider.

It's nice that your presentation was a success. You are clearly ahead of everyone else!
