Research paper that I haven't even started yet due tomorrow? Takin it easy. Panicking about it will get nothing done. I'll work something out, because I'm a master procrastinator.
Test on Saturday that I forgot 90% of the material for? It's all cool, I can try to cram in some info, but studying has never been my thing (I tend to do worse when I study because I doubt my initial train of thought when I "recall" something I studied), so I'll just rely on gut instinct for it and take it easy.
Postin on my blog to show you guys I'm still alive? Well, I'm doing that right now, aren't I?
Might do a review on something for tomorrow's post, but no guarantees because I suck at time management.
I also have to pick one topic I like about Japan for Japanese class and do an oral presentation on it. Oh boy, now I have to pick a topic that won't reveal my power level or anything. Was thinking about something generic, like Japanese cuisine, but my professor is apparently grouping up people that have the same topic, and I don't want to work with someone else.
I don't have much interest in the country itself really, just what they produce. Not one of those GLORIOUS NIPPON people that wish they were Japanese and wanna move over there for the rest of their lives. So this should be something simple, for someone like me, but it's actually hard to pick a topic since everything I would pick as a topic is not something I wanna do a presentation on. Sure, I could do a presentation on manga, bring in some samples (in Japanese, of course), and relate it a bit to the course work or something, but why the hell would I do that? Everyone already has their attention on me in class because I'm at a more advance level of Japanese, so I'm able to answer the questions without hesitation and the professor kinda gives me semi-special treatment by making me answer stuff we're not supposed to know yet. I realize it sounds like I'm gloating, but believe me, that's not my intention.
Pretty accurate depiction of me right now |
The last thing I want is even more attention put on me by announcing I have a collection of manga or anything like that. I was thinking of just playing it cool and saying how I use it as practice material, since they obviously know I've studied the language for quite a bit before entering the class. Y'know, it's not so odd if I just talk about the Japanese aspect of it rather than acting like a Narutard and saying how awesome manga is. I think it'd work out if I did it like that; bring in my Japanese copies of Yotsuba, talk about how it's written in fairly simple Japanese and how it's great for practice, etc. But at the same time I don't want to do a presentation on something revealing like that. There don't seem to be many otaku in my class (thankfully, or if there are they're keeping their power levels hidden as well as I am), so I don't think I'd have a problem being suddenly swarmed by a group of people that suddenly have me on top of their "must talk to" list.
Whatever, I'll come up with something, I guess. If I can't think of a topic, I'll just stick with something generic and hope nobody else picked that topic.
I'll have more free time after my exams, so by Monday I'll be able to get something interesting in here. Looking at how much I used to type in my older posts and how little I type in my newer posts kinda made me feel a bit bad. I could do a continuation of the 2D post, been planning on doing that for a while. Oh well, I'm off to (slowly) get started on my research paper right now. I'll keep you guys updated on it a bit later.

Do whatever you feel most comfortable with. I'd say go with the Yotsuba idea, which would enable you to talk about the simple language and stuff used, as you wrote.
Good luck on your paper.
Something about Japan that nobody will pick and won't reveal your power... What about trains? I don't know much about Japanese trains but there are supposed to be a lot of different ones, right? You could say you like the designs or something.
If your still following current trends, you can try fashion.
Local fishery might work as it's not exactly the same as food.
Maybe transportation? Cars are more of a luxury than necessity, people use bikes/scooters a lot, a lot of people walk, etc.
Regardless, I hope you figure something out for your presentation. You can always take the easy way out and group up with people. Well, I doubt you'll be able to take it easy with them though.
Do a talk about cellphones in Japan, and how they all use them to browse the internet in a simpler form. Or something.
Nobody will care to know about such a generic subject and it hardly requires much preparation to do, so you can keep taking it easy~
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Keepin them in mind. I don't have to pick a topic until Monday, so it's all cool. The actual presentation isn't until after Thanksgiving, but I do need to give my topic proposal next week.
I have an essay to write as well. Kind of avoiding it.

Most of us aren't honestly. The only reason I would WANT to visit Japan is for things like comiket and seiyuu events.
>Japanese
>presentation
I died, revived, then died again. I have no suggestions. I'd be stuck in the same spot you are in.

Don't worry about it. These posts are nice and meaty.
The Yotsuba idea seems pretty good but you also want to hide your power level so it might not(?).
What Cpt. Awesome said were pretty good suggestions, sorry if I'm not helpful.

I was going to suggest trains too. Or why not write about how quicklly japan became one of the leading countries for technology in such a small timespan following world war 2?
I've heard multiple engineering professors rave about the efficiency and innovation of Japanese technology. Maybe you could write something along those lines.
